The Yankton Chamber of commerces transporation committee is there To enhance the Yankton area surface and air transportation infrastructure

 

As a ynkton chamber of commerce transportation committee member you will help Maintain an active involvement in the Pan American Highway Association and with northeast Nebraska communities in order to encourage the continued four-lane development of Highway 81, from Yankton o Norfolk, with emphasis on nine miles south of Yankton to the Crofton intersection of Highway 12

Goal  
To enhance Yankton's area surface and air transportation infrastructure.

Current Projects and Objectives
•    Maintain an active involvement in the Pan American Highway Association and with northeast
     Nebraska communities to encourage continued four-lane development of Highway 81,
     from Norfolk to Yankton with emphasis on the nine miles south of Yankton 
•    Maintain involvement with the activities associated with the conversion of the Meridian Bridge and
     other downtown area transportation improvements
•    Continue to be involved in the promotion of having Highway 81 north of Yankton considered
     for four-lane in the stretch of Highway 81 from Tabor intersection to the Lesterville intersection
•    Monitor local, state and federal legislation pertaining to transportation and utility issues and make
     appropriate recommendations to the Governmental Affairs Committee and Chamber Board of
     Directors
•    Maintain active involvement with the design and reconstruction of the 8th Street intersection at 
     Summit Street and with 4th Street relating to signaling and construction due to increased traffic (new
     truck route designation) 
     to Summit Street intersection
•    Continue to promote a reliever route from east Highway 50 around Yankton to north Highway 81
•    Continue to promote a minimum overlay of Highway 46 from intersection of Highway 81 to Irene

Meetings are held the fourth Thursday at noon at the Yankton Chamber & Visitors Center Conference Room.
