Participants can expect a large, open group, facilitated discussion along with small group breakouts centered around learning what to do and how to talk with employees whose performance is below expectations. Participants are encouraged to bring real-life scenarios that can be worked through during the session. Speaker Tom Hausmann’s Biography

A native of South Dakota, Tom grew up in Bonesteel and was involved in farming and ranching. After starting college, he took a two-and-a-half year break and joined the Peace Corps where he spent time in India working with dairy farmers. After the Peace Corps, he graduated from South Dakota State
University with a degree in animal science and then started his own farming and ranching operation. Several years later, he was offered the opportunity to become a sales representative for Moorman’s Feed Company, which became a subsidiary of Archer Daniels Midland; here he excelled at both sales and sales management. As a district manager Tom’s ability to hire and train effective sales people for direct selling, straight commissioned jobs positioned him to become a full-time trainer. More than half of Tom’s 30 years of experience in sales have been focused on training direct sales people, dealers and managers from various industries in value added selling and effective leadership skills. Tom is the
founder of S.M.A.R.T. Training Company, which provides inexpensive methods to reduce turnover,
increase employee job satisfactions and personnel productivity by improving recruiting, supervisory, leadership and coaching skills. Tom believes that most people make the sales and personnel
management processes much more difficult than is necessary. Tom conducts his programs in a
relaxed, non-threatening manner with a great deal of participant involvement. He is a certified trainer for Integrity Systems, which provides selling, coaching, and customer service training products. He also provides training programs in a variety of other topics including Conflict Resolution, Writing Effective Performance Agreements, Coaching, Supervisory Skills, Behavior Based Interviewing and many other soft-skill programs. Tom is a member of Optimist International, Knights of Columbus and a Junior Achievement board member.
