Why are your favorite recreational options in the Yankton area?
My favorite recreational options are the parks and the outdoor activities around the river. Whether it’s the walking trails, playgrounds, disc golf, or kayaking with my family, there’s always something to do. Growing up, I especially enjoyed participating in figure skating and archery, which made the area feel even more special to me. I love that Yankton offers so many ways to enjoy nature, stay active, and explore different activities at any age.

Why is your favorite recreational option in the Yankton area?
Most people are choosing the Lake or River when asked this question, which I completely agree with, but my favorite recreational activity in Yankton is the golf course. I’ve developed a passion for the game of golf and in the warm South Dakota months you will usually find me out on the course playing whenever I can.

Lalit is Scoring and Events Coordinator at NFAA (National Field Archery Association).
What did you choose to live in Yankton?
I came to Yankton for my master’s degree and to train at the World's Largest Archery Center, and I stayed after accepting a job here with the NFAA. The community and peaceful environment quickly made it feel like home.

What I love most about the Yankton community is how supportive and genuinely connected people are. Small businesses aren’t just places to shop here, they’re relationships. People remember your name, celebrate your wins, and show up for you, and that kind of hometown support means everything as a business owner.

What are your favorite recreational options in the Yankton area?
My favorite Yankton recreation activity is anything outdoors. My fiancé and I love taking our dogs on the trails in Yankton and exploring all the outdoor activities Yankton has to offer. I also love golfing and spend my summer outdoors whenever I am not working.

The people of Yankton truly embody what it means to be a community. When my husband and I moved here, we were welcomed with open arms and quickly felt at home. I admire how deeply people care about one another and how consistently they show up to support local events and initiatives. There’s a strong sense of pride here that makes Yankton special.
What is your favorite recreational option in the Yankton area?
In my free time, I enjoy walking my dogs and spending time with friends and family at the lake. The park is beautiful and so well maintained. It is one of my favorite places to unwind.

Why did you choose to live in Yankton?
I moved to Yankton after college to start my career at Williams and Company P.C. Having grown up near here (Freeman, SD), Yankton offered a comfortable balance of familiarity, convenience, and a pace of life that felt just right. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down when you need to but still feel engaged with the people and places around you.
What do you love most about the Yankton community?
One of the things I appreciate most are the local businesses. You can feel the pride and care they put into their shops, restaurants, and services. Local businesses are what keeps a town unique and thriving. They really shape the character of the community.

Why do you choose to live in the Yankton area?
I choose to live in the Yankton area because of the small town feel, slower pace, and close community. Yankton also offers many great events and opportunities. Being part of the sport community in a smaller town has been so rewarding. I love sharing my passion of swimming and watching the swimmers improve and grow up together.

Why did you choose to live in the Yankton area?
I was born in Sioux Falls but moved around a lot growing up. I moved up here again to South Dakota from Texas about 6 months ago after graduating college to be back by family and to start my professional career. I love the area, the people are very welcoming, and I’m very excited for the weather to warm up for the variety of outdoor activities available here. I’m happy to be back in my home state and to start my next adventure here in Yankton!

We choose to live in the Yankton area because it’s home. Michael grew up here and has deep roots and family in Yankton who provide us with incredible support. It’s also a wonderful, close-knit community and a great place to raise our son Baylor!

Our favorite recreational option in the Yankton area is the river. There’s nothing better on a hot summer day than being out on the water with family and friends. It’s such a fun, relaxing way to spend time together and one of the things we love most about living here.

We’ve been here for 4 years now, and it quickly became home to us. We really appreciate the small town feel of the community. We enjoy the locally owned businesses, the community involvement, and the activities that are hosted year-round. The outdoor activities and proximity to the lake are unmatched. We are excited to raise our young family here.

What do you love most about Yankton?
The thing I love the most about Yankton would have to be the people. I'm lucky to have some of them as friends and a few as family. I've lived near Yankton my whole life and the people there are almost always kind and down to earth, which is something I myself strive to be. It really helps not only myself feel welcome but anyone who visits the area.
What is your favorite recreational activity in the Yankton area?
My favorite recreational activity would have to be going to the lake. Both my family and I have enjoyed days on the lake for just about as long as I've been alive. Having something like that so close to home really helps make those long hot summer days just a little bit shorter. I'm always finding an excuse to go.

I chose to live in the Yankton area because Yankton provides so many opportunities for children and families in an impactful way but living here has also taught me that you always have someone that is always there for you if you need it. There is always someone cheering someone on in a positive light.
What is your favorite volunteer opportunity in Yankton?
My favorite volunteer opportunity is assisting with RISE at Restore on Wednesdays. I enjoy showing up and being a part of something that is bigger than me. I love being able to teach and serve the children that attend RISE on Wednesdays.

My favorite recreational options in Yankton are camping, kayaking, and swimming at the Huether Family Aquatics Center.

What is your favorite recreational activity in the Yankton area?
With Lewis and Clark Lake being so close to Yankton, there are a host of different activities for anyone to participate in. My favorite recreational activity in the area is exploring different public lands in the spring to search for morel mushrooms. I love being outdoors, and having a task such as searching for mushrooms makes the experience more rewarding. There are lots of areas in the Vermillion/Yankton Area where you can get out, enjoy the fresh air, and search for different types of edible and delicious mushrooms including morels, chicken of the woods, puffballs, and pheasant backs just to name a few!
What is your favorite volunteer opportunity in Yankton?
I may be a little biased as I am the assistant swim coach, but my favorite volunteer activity is helping out with the Yankton Swim Team home meet in November. This is a great opportunity for anyone to get some experience volunteering and making an impact in the community. I volunteered at this meet for two years before becoming the assistant coach at the Yankton Swim Team. This opportunity is an amazing way to get involved with youth athletics and explore a sport that may be unfamiliar to most people. It is a fantastic event for parents to check out the sport and see how it works.

I chose to live in Yankton because of my family and friends who live here. Yankton has a peaceful, small-town feel where everything is close and convenient. The river and lake views make it feel like home no matter where you go.
What do you love most about Yankton?
I love that I get to spend relaxing days out on the lake or river taking in the beautiful views. Walking the trails all over town with my dog Annie makes it even more special and gives me something to look forward to on nice enjoyable days. I love to take in all our beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
I love to support local boutiques and family-owned stores, visiting farmers markets, and our local restaurants.
