IMPORTANT DATES & INFORMATION -- City Commission Election
FRIDAY JULY 3: PETITION CIRCULATION BEGINS
- Petitions can be picked up at the City Finance Office during normal business hours or can be printed directly from the South Dakota Secretary of State's website.
TUESDAY AUGUST 18: PETITION FILING DUE DATE
- Petitions must be filed in the City Finance Office or withdrawn by 5 p.m.
- If more than three citizens file petitions, the City of Yankton will combine with Yankton County on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 for the General Election.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 19: VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE
You MUST be registered and reside in City limits to vote for City Commissioner.

- If you are in doubt about whether you are registered, check the Voter Information Portal at www.sdsos.gov or call the Yankton County Auditor's Office at 605-260-4400
SEPTEMBER 18 - NOVEMBER 2: EARLY VOTING PERIOD
- Vote at the Yankton County Government Center (321 W 3rd St) on weekdays from 9AM - 5PM
- Questions can be directed to the Yankton County Auditor's Office at 605-260-4400
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3: ELECTION DAY
- Polls will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM
